What’s next

18 Oct

Well, now that our cross race is finished we find ourselves pondering what is next for us in the way of special events. The future looks like cross racing almost every weekend until mid December for Jonathan and Branton. After that we will be busy with family and friends over the holidays. But come January we will most likely be ready for our next big weekend event.

We are not sure what to call it but here is the basic premise. A 89 mile ride with a 50 mile option as well that will incorporate a mix of paved and dirt roads. We are thinking of doing the event in the form of a “Gentleman’s Race”. Teams of four or five riders ride the route as a group and finish together or not at all.

After the ride depending on weather and time we will have other activities like a cookout and clay pigeon shooting contest.

The route is linked below.

The Route

It will be very challenging and very scenic. The last section is almost all in national parks land and you might not see another soul the whole bit.

Lets have some feedback on this so we can decide the final details and make it happen.

One week until the Adventure Begins

11 Oct

This coming Sunday October 16 we are holding our first cyclocross race. The name of the race is Highroller’s Cyclocross Adventure. A funny name for a race, but the reality is that the overall experience has been an adventure. The permits, the phone calls, the course preparation, etc have all opened my eyes to the fact that promoting events is by far one of the most difficult things I have done in cycling.

Thanks to the City of Fayetteville for the use of Walker Park for the race

We have it all lined out now and we just have to see what happens on Sunday. I have talked to several folks making the drive up from Little Rock to do the event. We are looking forward to seeing those guys, and finding out how the competition for the rest of the year is going to play out. There has already been a bit of goodnatured smack talk going on via the interwebs. I have not heard of anyone coming over from the Jonesboro but I hope some of them make it too.

We still need some volunteers to make the event run smoothly but I am confident we will be able to get it all under control come Sunday. If you want to race or volunteer give me a call at the shop. 479-442-9311. We are also hoping to get a good number of spectators out at the event to cheer on the riders. There is no charge for spectating and the overall vibe at cross races is very conducive to spectators having a good time.

Tonight all the local racers are heading out to hone their skills and tune their engines at TBR, the temporary location for Microcross (Our weekly practice races).

Highroller’s Cyclocross Adventure

The summer is making way for the cool mornings and evenings of fall. In the natural order of things a young man’s heart turns to …. CYCLOCROSS!!

Seriously, This year promises to be the best year for cyclocross in Arkansas that we have ever seen. Highroller is on the cross train in a big way. In fact we are hosting the Arkansas Super-Prestige series opener at Walker Park on Sunday Oct 16 2011.

The Arkansas Super-Prestige is a points series that is designed to promote more participation in cyclocross events across our fine state.
You can find more info on it at the fine blog of Steve Ericson www.arkansascyclocross.blogspot.com

In preparation for the USAC race we have been hosting weekly practice sessions that we call MICROCROSS. We meet at Walker Park on Tuesdays at 6pm and try out new options for the course as well as introduce new riders to cyclocross.

Here are a few pics of the venue Walker Park so you can get a good idea of what the course could look like.

Lots of tight sections in between the trees

A sand pit?? Hmmmmm.

There are sure to be some open sections for the roadies too.
